Endocrine Surgery
Thyroid nodules are common. Less than 1 in 10 will be a thyroid cancer. However, if you have a lump or nodule in your neck, we need to rule out the possibility of cancer by investigating and treating it as early as possible. Speak to your GP if you notice any unusual physical symptoms and they can refer you to see one of the surgeons at Sunnybank Surgical to discuss surgery for thyroid nodules.
The parathyroid glands are located in the neck closely related to the thyroid gland. There are in total four glands. An overactive gland results in excessive parathyroid hormone (PTH) production. This can be easily diagnosed on a blood test and its resultant manifestation of hypercalcemia can result in symptoms of bone weakening, kidney stones, abdominal pain, constipation and psychiatric disturbance.
