Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction is offered for all women who have undergone a mastectomy. This procedure aims to reconstruct a breast that closely resembles its natural appearance and shape.
While breast reconstruction can be both physically and emotionally challenging, it offers a rewarding option for women who have lost a breast due to cancer or other medical conditions. Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure designed to reconstruct one or both breasts to closely resemble their natural appearance and shape. It can be performed either immediately following a mastectomy or at a later time.
There are two main types of breast reconstruction: implant reconstruction and autologous reconstruction. In implant reconstruction, a breast implant is placed beneath the mastectomy skin and muscle to recreate the breast’s shape and shape. Autologous reconstruction involves harvesting a flap of skin, fat, and/or muscle from another part of the body to form the new breast. The flap can be harvested from the abdomen, thigh, buttocks or back. The most suitable procedure for you will depend on factors such as your age, overall health, the size and shape of your remaining breast, and the availability of body tissue.
