Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess skin and repositions fat pads around the eyes to address facial aging and a tired look around the eyes.
Eyelid reduction surgery addresses concerns such as:
Loose skin on the upper eyelids that may affect vision
Puffiness in the upper eyelids caused by excess fat
Under-eye bags and dark circles
Hollowness under the eyes
Falling lower eyelids that expose the white below the iris
Excess skin and fine lines on the lower eyelids
This procedure is commonly performed on its own or in combination with other facial surgeries, such as a facelift or brow lift.
Upper Blepharoplasty: This procedure removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, creating a more open appearance. It can also address vision obstruction caused by drooping eyelids. Incisions are discreetly placed within the crease of the eyelid, minimising visible scarring. If your upper eyelid is drooping, this procedure can be combined with a ptosis repair.
Lower Blepharoplasty: Focused on the area beneath the eyes, this surgery aims to reduce puffiness, lower eye bags, and excess skin that contribute to a tired or aged look. The incision is typically on the inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival), prioritising minimal scarring. The fat pads are reduced and/or redistributed to remove the eyebags and fill any under-eye hollowness (tear trough deformity) to provide a more youthful and refreshed look. This can also be combined with fat grafting to help fill any hollowness and rejuvenate the skin.
Asian Blepharoplasty / Mongolian or Epicanthal Fold Surgery
Asian blepharoplasty is tailored to the unique anatomical features of Asian eyelids, creating a crease while maintaining ethnic identity. Dr. Cheng uses advanced approaches including incisional and non-incisional techniques to achieve symmetrical and well-defined eyelid creases that open up the eye and complement each patient’s facial structure.
Double eyelid surgery creates a defined crease in the upper eyelid, addressing the eyes' appearance by making them appear larger and more open. This procedure is popular among individuals who lack an eyelid crease or have asymmetrical eyelids. Techniques include incisional and non-incisional methods, depending on the patient’s preferences and anatomy.
Mongolian fold surgery addresses the epicanthic fold—a skin fold that can cover the inner corner of the eye—common in individuals of East Asian descent. This procedure opens up the inner eye corner to create a more aesthetically appealing eye. Techniques are carefully selected to ensure minimal scarring and optimal aesthetic results.
Epicanthal surgery is performed to modify the inner fold of the eyelid, creating a more open and elongated eye shape. This procedure is often combined with double eyelid surgery or Asian blepharoplasty to achieve balanced and harmonious results. Dr. Cheng’s precise approach prioritises minimal scarring.
